This case features our 'TC' Aquaclip which makes the case waterproof up to IPX6. Temporary immersion is fine, but continuous immersion is not (see below).
But can I swim with it?
Although not designated as waterproof, we have received reports from many, many users that they or their children have actually enjoyed swimming with our cases without any problems (the vast majority of our customers have purchased the case for their children). We're talking about splashing around in the pool or ocean, but we're NOT talking about endurance/long-distance swimming. Our tests show that the TC Clamp lets in a small amount of water after a period of full immersion. So the best advice we can give is to wear it on the lower back if you swim from the front, and on the belly if you swim on the back, so that it spends as little time as possible submerged.
Important note about Aquapac insulin pumps and kits: Aquapac commissioned research from Imperial College London into the suitability of its kits for use with insulin pumps. The results show that in some circumstances the flow of insulin can be reduced by the sheath. In particular, low flow rates are hampered and therefore Aquapac cannot make any claims regarding the suitability of these sheaths with insulin pumps. The use of these kits with insulin pumps is at the sole discretion of the user.
Users of Aquapac briefcases with insulin pumps are advised to regularly check their blood sugar levels. In addition, we strongly recommend that you get the go-ahead from your advisor before using it.
The tests were carried out by the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine using a Roche Accu-Check Spirit insulin pump at a temperature of 20C with flows of 2U/h and 10U/h. The amounts of insulin administered over 60 minutes observed were as follows:
2U/hour without box 0.0131g (100% flow rate)
2U/h in Aquapac 150 0.0106g (81% flow rate)
2U/h in Aquapac 150 0.0056g (2nd test pattern) (42% flow rate)
2U/h in Aquapac 550 0.0121g (92% flow rate)
10U/hour without box 0.0864g (100% flow rate)
10U/h in Aquapac 150 0.0878g (100% flow rate)
10U/h in Aquapac 550 0.0903g (100% flow rate)

Important notes
Cases with this clamp are for surface use only, but offer protection against temporary immersion. Its prolonged immersion is not recommended.
When the case is not in use, leave the TC clamp open. Otherwise, the cable or tube could end up causing permanent distortion of the foam, with the consequent risk of leakage.
As long as these instructions are followed, the clamp will be watertight with or without cable/tube.
The maximum thickness of the cable/tube around which the TC clamp will seal is 1/10 inch (3.5mm).
Note: It is not valid for immersion in water.
